Married: 4 wives, 6 children
Sons Lachlan and James are succeeding to the management of the Murdoch media empire.

Professional Life
1952 Inherits family business News Limited, main asset was The News newspaper out of Adelaide, Australia.
1952 and later: Buys and turns around numerous newspaper throughout Australia using tabloid format.
1968 Enters British newspaper market.
1969 Turns around The Sun newspaper. Later The Times and other newspapers in Great Britain.
1973 Enters US Market with purchase of San Antonio Express-News.
1974 Launches Star, nation-wide (US) supermarket tabloid.
1976 Acquires New York Post.
1985 Becomes U.S. citizen.
1985 Purchases significant part of Twentieth-Century Fox.
1986 Launches Fox Broadcasting Corp.
1989 Launches Sky Television. Merged with rival British Sky Broadcasting (1990).
1989 Acquires Harper Collins Publishing
1996 Launches Fox News Chanel
2007 Acquires Dow Jones including the Wall Street Journal
