Today the Director of the FBI sent a letter to Congressional leaders disclosing that the agancy was looking into new evidence on the Clinton e-mail scandal. The Clintons and the Democrats reacted with anger claiming that this kind of thing was unprecedented.
Years ago in the 1992 election, the same kind of thing happened. Then they had a different kind of reaction.
Just four days before that election the Special Prosecutor announced a new indictment of Caspar Weinberger, Defence Secretary of George Bush. Bush was the incumbent President running for re-election against Bill Clinton. Bush was behind in the polls but was catching up until that announcement and the Clinton’s use of it broke the back of the surge. A month later the indictment was thrown out of court.
- The Clintons’ hypocracy on late election law enforcement actions and
- How much more adroit they were in taking advantage of the hit on their opponent than Donald Trump has been.
As for the general impression of the media establishment’s behavior: how differently they treat a story when the target is a Republican from when it is a Democrat.
