Suez Conflict – Arab View

by Jack Le Moine

From the latest happenings in things historical. This article Sixty Years On, It Is Clear Suez Was a Missed Opportunity for America was published 5 days ago in The National (of the United Arab Emirates). The article’s author’s email is Faisal Al Yafai.

This represents the Arab point of view. The missed opportunity it refers to occurred in the aftermath of the post-conflict. America should have accommodated its policies with the Arabs’ in order to gain acceptance in the Arab World.

My own view is that Eisenhower’s squelching the French/English operations also had the impact of discouraging independent European operations of the future. American leaders, both Democrat and Republican, would complain in future years of lack of European actions in dealing with conflicts of the world. Americans of today feel that when it comes to policing world conflicts, they have to carry the load disproportionately.

More on the source, The National; on Abu Dhabi; and on the Suez Conflict.
