In the future, how will Mars, or any other extraterrestrial colony, be governed? This article reports on different proposals now under development. The problem with such future constitutions is the practical problems of individual acts which could destroy a colony living just on the verge of existence. A bomb could destroy a fragile colony. In fact even a strike by essential personnel could do it.

To govern Mars, the proposals try to take the best of Earth’s constitutions.  SpaceX isn’t so much as writing a Mars constitution as it is editing it.
