Cinque de Mayo

Time: May 5, 1862
Place: Puebla, Mexico

In the distance the French army marches to the coast. 4,000 Mexicans faces double their number of French. Napoleon III was determined to establish a new empire in Mexico. Since the Mexican War, the Mexican army had a reputation as an army of losers.

The Mexicans won the battle. Eventually they won the war. The Mexican army was now winners.
