Battles of the Civil War

Bringing the best history on the web. — From Crash Course, their US History Series, #19. Battles of the Civil War, published on June 20, 2013.

In which John Green lists a whole lot of the battles of the US Civil War in seven and a half minutes. We get a lot of requests for military history, so we offer a list of battle names, with some commentary about outcomes, and lots of really interesting pictures. This is a but of a departure for Crash Course as we leave behind the world of thoughtful analysis and just list some facts. Don’t worry though. We’ve already got our brains turned back on for next week.

Jack Le Moine’s thoughts on this video

This is a terrible video. It is only included here for the sake of completeness of the series. The Crash Course people’s distain for military history is not only misplaced (military history is important) but to put out a video like this is insulting to military historians and the rest of us. They did gather and display a lot of pictures and we need the audio to identify them, so there is that.
