Happy New Year from History Moments!
by Jack Le Moine, the Publisher
The backbone of this site is stories of the great events of history as told by great historians. Some are by witnesses. Some by great writers of literature. These are drawn from a the multi-volume Book “Great Events by Famous Historians” selected and edited by Rossiter Johnson; assisted by Charles F. Horne and John Rudd.
We broke the selections down into 5 minute installments for easy reading. Videos, current books, and internet articles (chiefly from Wikipedia) add value to each selection. Below we chose one selection for each month to highlight from the many that we published last year.
OUR TOP SELECTIONS
February: Abd-el-Kader and France’s Conquest of Algeria
March: Defeat of the Spanish Armada
April: Ivan The Great Unites Russia And Breaks The Tartar Yoke
May: Akbar Establishes the Moghul Empire in India
June: Louis XIV Establishes Absolute Monarchy in France
August: Chile Captures Lima
September: The Strangling of Persia
October: Livingstone’s African Discoveries
November: Cervantes’ Don Quixote Reforms Literature
December: Confucius
OUR FUTURE PLANS
A new year and here’s our plans for this blog. A lot of our stuff we publish can be located in Gutenberg.org as text files or some other e-book file. We make these files accessible by organizing the material and publishing it as episodes. Think of this approach like watching a TV miniseries.
Specific Plans:
Herodotus will be continued to the end of Book IV.
French Wars series will be concluded this year.
Other original articles using the you-are-there approach shall appear.
Other things of note going on in history will be brought to your attention
Expect something each day.
Housekeeping:
A website to organize the series will appear, too.
Labels shall be organized to distinguish between permanent categories and labels for specific series and miniseries.
